Potty Training

Potting Training.  Just the words can make me cringe in despair.  I know this kid is ready to be trained, it’s me who’s dragging my feet.  I’ll admit it, I have no idea how to potty train this medically fragile kid with special needs of mine.

It kind of seems like one. more. thing. for some reasons.  Right now it feels like one. more. thing. might just do me in.

You can’t see me, but I’m hanging my head in shame even as I type.

I need to figure this out.  Quickly.  I know I’ve written about potty training before.  Yet here we are.  Still.

A little boy in cloth training pants.

I’ve had the cloth training pants for a YEAR now.  How embarrassing.  And to be even more honest the cost of disposable diapers is DESTROYING our budget.  Even though Parker will be turning nine next month, he is still so little that being in diapers doesn’t look too out of place.  Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.

I need some more motivation.

I think the pee in the potty thing will be much easier than the rest.  Parker has several bowel movements a day because of the medications he takes, plus there is the whole former IA kid thing that brings it’s own challenges.

The pull your hair out sort of challenges.

We have the option of a Malone Procedure down the road.  But I need to put some real effort in Parker being able to poop in the potty before I go the surgery route.

How did you potty train your child with special needs?

How did the non-verbal thing play into your grand adventure?

Was there a program that worked for you?  Or did you just create your own program?

Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a Potty Therapist that would come to your home and take care of this for you?  I imagine this sort of therapist would make a bajillion dollars by the end of their first week.

So, tell me there’s hope.  Give me your best secrets.  Share the websites, books, tricks that worked for you.

Cause I’m gonna need all the help I can get.
