By the time Parker had been up for two hours he had already needed 12 diaper changes.

12 tear filled diaper changes.

Once again we thought we had a handle on Parker’s bum woes. Once again we were wrong.

My washing machine is full of diapers and cloth wipes. A package a day of disposables simply isn’t in the budget.

I’ve been perfecting my prefold skills. A newspaper fold:

I spent today trying to take Parker’s mind off the pain with lots of rocking, reading and fingerplays.

We also practiced walking:

And making silly faces:

But in the end, it just still hurt.

I marvel when I think of Parker making the decision to come to this earth knowing the challenges he would be facing.

I know without a shadow of a doubt, that Parker didn’t come so we could help him. He was already perfect. He came so he could help our family grow and progress. He came to teach lessons that we couldn’t have learned any other way.

Even with all the surgeries, the pain, and the effort to master skills that others take for granted, this kid wakes up each morning with a smile and a hug to share.

I wish I could say the same of myself.

I still have so much to learn. I need to remember to rely on my Father in Heaven when I am afraid or having thoughts of ‘what are we going to do when..’

I need to remember that come what may, it is through adversity we become strong and gain knowledge.

I need to welcome all that my Heavenly Father has to teach me.

I want Parker to feel how much he is loved. I want him to know that we will always be there to take care of him and help as he makes his way through this earthly existence.

I want him to know how honored we are that he agreed to come to our family.

And I want him to always feel that he made a good call when he chose me as his Mom.
