Two Ingredient Playdough!

I am a total playdough snob.  The stuff from the store totally creeps me out both texture and smell wise.  Even when I purchase the stuff that is supposed to smell good……it doesn’t.  So I wind up making playdough for Parker.  And it doesn’t get much easier than a two ingredient playdough.  Oh, and did I mention, no cooking required?

The ingredients?  Lotion and cornstarch.  That’s it.  Then end.  Well, if you want to add color you’ll need some food coloring and that would make it a three ingredient playdough.

baby lotion

I used baby lotion thinking that the smell would be wonderful.  Alas, when using this much baby lotion the smell is closer to nauseous than delicious.  If I were to make this again I’d use unscented lotion and then add a few drops of an essential oil for a scent.

The feel of this playdough is as drying as a lot of doughs I’ve used before.  The actual feeling of the dough is like a really thick Oobleck due to the cornstarch.

I started with 3 cups of cornstarch to 1 cup lotion, and then adding a bit more lotion as needed.

This dough rolled out well and was good to make snakes and other simple shapes with.  It wasn’t the best at using cookie cutter with.  Of course that could be because it may have turned out on the little dry side.

It is important that you keep this covered in plastic or a covered container.  It will dry out and dry out quickly.  If it does dry out you can add a bit more lotion or even a bit of water and work it in.

I have to say that my all time favorite playdough recipe is my flour free recipe.  But this one is worth a try too.
