Each week Parker’s preschool teacher, Miss Linda, comes to our house. We love Miss Linda. She is a rainbow of total awesomeness.
Which, btw, is a compliment I don’t hand out very often.
Miss Linda isn’t just teaching the new and wonderful to Parker, but to me as well. She’s teaching me how to take my degrees in education and use them as a spring board for a kind of ‘do it yourself degree’ in special education.
You, know, in a totally ain’t nobody ever gonna give me any college credit but it’s working great here at Parker’s Preschool kinda way.
And for that I am grateful.
Yesterday Miss Linda got tricky. She introduced a couple of new concepts in a way that Parker found fun and engaging. Well, except for at the very end where he kept signing ‘STAR!”, which just happened to be the only shape Miss Linda forgot to include in this activity.
In case I haven’t told you yet, ‘STAR!’ is Parker’s new favorite sign and shape. It’s getting to where we are all trying to bribe each other to go through yet another rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for our Brave Hero.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, I’m telling ya.
The activity is great in that it introduces the concept of placing, which is totally different from sorting. Miss Linda also snuck in the new concept of bigger and smaller.
The awesome just leaks out of Miss Linda’s pores.
To help you get a better idea of how this whole activity goes down, I video taped it. Except for the fact that I really stink with the video camera, I think it turned out pretty well. This was towards the end of the session and Parker’s attention was beginning to wander.
Not to mention he was finally catching on to the fact that Miss Linda indeed did NOT bring a star.
Whatever was she thinking?

Bless your precious little munchkin and that fabulous teacher of his!
God bless that woman’s patience. When I saw the video I was also struck by your son’s sweet little feet. My kids are bigger now and we don’t have those tiny feet here, just teenager and pre-teen feet. I hope you are making foot prints out of kids paint or whatever you happen to have as we used to do. Good times.
