I was reminded of the power of the human spirit as I watched The Landfill Harmonic Movie and the creation of instruments from garbage for the Recycled Orchestra.
But the statement that stood out to me the most was this:
People realize we shouldn’t throw away trash carelessly.
Well, we shouldn’t throw away people either.
Throwing people away. In this video they are speaking about giving up on those too poor to seemingly matter.
In my world it’s talking about throwing away those, who in the eyes of society, are not quite perfect.
Like a certain medically fragile little kid with special needs, and his community of peers.
In Landfill Harmonic, those for whom the poverty level represents vast wealth, create instruments out of garbage that sound every bit as beautiful as traditional instruments.
In our life, those with special needs work to overcome obstacles and prove themselves to be every bit as valuable as their typically developing counterparts.
Beautiful music from items thrown away. Beautiful lives being lived by those who are often seen as disposable.
All it takes is a willingness to think outside of the box. To see that beauty exists beyond the prevailing belief.
The beautiful music found within Parker’s life is as inspiring as the most brilliant concerto.
You just have to be willing to look with a heart tuned to a finer awareness.
