I’ve lost 18 pounds. Really it should be more. I gave up my beloved Dr. Pepper over ice weeks ago. I haven’t even had a Diet Coke. I should be in a size 6 by now, right? Isn’t that the way it works?
All this water I’ve been drinking should have flushed my system thin. I know I’ve been flushing something about a zillion times a day. Nope, it doesn’t matter if what seems like gallons of water all go in at the same time, that same liquid doesn’t come out all at the same time.
ahem.
I haven’t had any Dr. Pepper in a month. It hasn’t been pretty, folks.
This is when I usually crank up the exercise to get things progressing. Except my knee is a mess. I have no idea why. I just woke up one morning and it hurt a bit. A little while later and it now hurts a lot.
I can exercise one day. Then by morning the pain is such that I walk all hunched over like a little old lady. Let’s face it. I might be old, but I sure ain’t little these days.
I used to tell myself that carrying all this extra weight around was the price of keeping a certain medically fragile kid alive.
My blood pressure at my last doctor’s appointment was 164/111.
It’s no longer about just keeping Parker alive. It’s about keeping me alive too.
This being a Special Needs Mama is hard on a girl’s health sometimes.
It may also have something to do with refusing to be this fat come my son’s wedding in May.
You read it here first, folks.
I’ve thrown down the internet gauntlet.
Now to figure out what to do about my knee.
PS: The bottle of DP in the picture above. All Reed’s. While he’s cut back, he hasn’t totally given up the habit. Yeah. I’ve been THAT disciplined. Abstaining even with temptation at my fingertips. Who knew I had that in me?
Do you like eggs??
I know a couple of people who tried to lose weight for years… quit drinking everything except water.
(Including milk, juice and soda.) They went to the gym everyday… it didn’t make a difference.
They started something new and have lost about 50lbs each. But, it definitely takes some creativity…
As soon as they wake up… (they don’t even stop to brush their hair) they make 5 eggs… (they prefer scrambled) and eat them.
They go to the gym a couple of hours later and the protein from the eggs helps with the work out.
Even without going to the gym, it appears to work. I don’t know why… I just know they’ve found A LOT of ways to make eggs.
Carnation Instant Breakfast is another one I found accidentally when I couldn’t eat solid foods for 6 months. I had only Carnation and my caffeine.
The two mentioned above, generally have Carnation Instant Breakfast (Costco) or a Protein shake (from Costco) or yogurt for lunch.
You could probably make some pretty healthy smoothies/shakes to have for lunch.
Just a few ideas.
Good for you! I need to do something, too. Hang in there, mama. You can do this.

I swear I can sense snow coming, my knee gets really sore a few days before. That sounds like such and 89 year old woman thing today, but it’s true. If you can, try to roll on a foam roller, the muscles around your knee? Maybe you’ve got some tight tendons supporting it. Oh and feel free NOT to follow my advice, I’m not expert

Don’t make too light of the weight you HAVE lost – 18 lbs. is a BIG deal! There’s plenty of info out there on foods to help you lose weight – I won’t go there, but to say in my mid-life – a little further along than you – portion control has been very important for me to not gain weight and to shave-off a slow creep in pounds. That and salt – more pervasive than you can imagine and very hard to avoid.
Now as to your knee….I could say a whole lot, but online consulting is not good enough for the Mom of Our Brave Hero. (Yes, the stress of caregiver is obviously a factor in struggling to keep healthy yourself.) I know you have been to a physician but advocate (you know how to do that) for yourself to find a great (not a good) physical therapist.

I just saw a clear pitcher of water on Pinterest yesterday that had all this beautiful colorful fruit in it. I think I’m going to try that to see if it helps me want to drink my water all day.

Blame cortisol. Those of us who live in a perpetual state of stress reap all of the negative effects of the hormone that is intended to balance our body after an adrenaline response. It makes us put on belly fat, the most dangerous kind and the hardest to lose. As if we needed one more thing to stress about! I’ve read that Vitamin C and Calcium can help. I have been eating a lot of oranges lately. I hope it works. There are other foods that are supposed to help. I really need to do something about it because I’m not sleeping and portion control is not enough.
