Granny Fudge: PLUS A $160 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway!

Growing up, my mom used to tell me about the fudge she and her mom made when she was a little girl.  She told me about having to cook it, bringing it to a rolling boil and stirring the living daylights out of it.  Then taking it off the heat, and putting the pan into a sink of ice water and beating the fudge into smoothness.   I don’t have the  time to beat my fudge by hand nor to do all the steps my mom and grandma did to make their fudge from  it’s cocoa powder scratch base.  Luckily, this recipe  is as close to that homemade fudge as you can get. It comes  with a few short cuts, like chocolate chips,  marshmallow cream, and a mixer instead of a wooden spoon.  We call it Granny Fudge.  It’s got that old fashioned, creamy taste that makes me think of the holidays.

The ingredients are simple things that go on sale this time of year.  Most, if not all, you may already have in your fridge and pantry.  You can add the nuts or not.  I used milk chocolate chips, you can use semi-sweet.  One thing though, use real butter and half and half.

fudge ingredients
Combine in a heavy 3 quart sauce pan:

4 1/2 cups sugar

1 1/2 cups half and half

1/4 cup butter

dash salt

1 pkg. semi sweet chocolate chips

4 squares (1 oz each) unsweetened chocolate, chopped

1 jar (7 ounces) marshmallow cream

1 cup nuts, chopped

chocolate for fudge

In  a bowl, add marshmallow cream, chocolate chips and unsweetened chocolate.

In a heavy bottomed  of sauce pan, bring the sugar, half and half, 1/4 cup butter and salt to a full rolling boil for 6 minutes, stirring frequently.

mixing fudge

Pour over chocolate and marshmallow and beat until melted and creamy.  My mom and grandmother would have done this step in a sink of ice water, beating by hand.  I used my Kitchenaide

Creamy.  Sets up quickly.  Cuts cleanly.  Tastes heavenly. Granny Fudge.  My granny would approve.
