Okay. This is an oldie but a goodie with a bit of a twist.
Recycled crayons?
Been there, done that?
How about recycled ALPHABET crayons?
(Hey, even if you done this too, how about leaving me a little comment love commending my effort, eh?)
Parker’s working on the letters A and B. I’m working on the most ways I can mix the objective up. Cause the more ways a kid can identify an objective, the better.
I started with:
Old crayons, their labels removed, chopped up and placed into a silicone mold.
Put the crayon filled mold on a cookie sheet and place the cookie sheet in a 350 degree oven.
I set my timer on 8 minutes. But it actually took closer to 12 to get everything melted down well.
Here the best tip I can give you: Odds are great that you will need to add a few more pieces of crayon during the process in order to get the thickness of crayon you are dreaming of. Have those on hand and ready to go. Or you could over fill your molds a bit.
I let these cool overnight. If you are using metal molds you may want to let them cool and then place them in the freezer for a few minutes to help them pop out easier.
Enjoy!
Very, Very cool…I hope he loves them!!!
Very cool! I have not done recycled Alphabet crayons before. Where did you get the mold?
Brenna,
I ordered these off of ebay. But I bet if you google silicone molds you’ll find a set!

That is so the coolest thing ever! We have those molds and I know exactly what I’m going to do with any crayon bits I find now! Save them for this! Cory loves those crayon rocks so much I know this will be a hit too!
Very cool! They look awesome. I love that mold too. I tired to do a “make your own crayon” thing once. It did not work out! I used cupcake liners as I didn’t want to be scrapping crayons out of a cupcake pan. The liners have some sort of wax that also melted in with the crayons… and it was clear.
I should really try this again.
Yours look very nice.
Were your molds metal? Using putting a metal mold in the freezer for a bit and taking them out will cause some condensation to form…..making them easier to pop out!
You could always pick up a cup cake pan that you set aside just for crayon making. I see cheap pans (.50) at thrift stores all the time!
Thanks so much for sharing this idea!! My 3 year old loves to break his crayons so I had a bag full!!!
We have made ours rainbow style which he loves, always a surprise what colors will show up!!
I am so excited to try this. The only silicone mold I have is a mini-muffin so we’ll see. One thing I am not lacking is broken crayon bits!
Katia,
The mini muffin mold will work great too!
Those are really neat! Where did you find the alphabet mold?
I’m pretty sure I ordered them off of ebay. But you could google them I bet.
These are awesome!! Great Christmas gift idea, thanks!!!!
I thought I would throw my 2 cents in. You can get silicone molds in the candy section at a craft store. They’re really cute although you might have to turn the oven down a little and cook them a little longer. Just another thought!
